May 12th, 4PM CET: COVID-19 and migrants in Israel- from uncertainty to vaccination

Israel is hosting regular and irregular labor migrants, mainly in Tel Aviv area. COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated the vulnerability of the migrants in Israel. Aside from the threat of infection, they also faced job and food insecurity due to lockdowns and decrease in a need for unskilled workers. Additionally, migrants who were not medically insured lacked access to medical care.

In order to avoid the spread of SARS-CoV-2, health and governmental authorities in Israel had to raise awareness among the migrants, provide access to medical care, guarantee sufficient food supply and care for adequate housing. Migrants and official agencies had to confront and overcome mutual mistrust and re-build productive dialog to find solutions to ensure access to basic services and social protection.

Israel has been able to vaccinate large parts of its population in a rapid course, including migrants. This webinar will demonstrate the impacts of COVID-19 on migration through various lenses: from the personal experience of the migrants, different studies which were performed during the outbreak, municipal and governmental response and finally, what we can lean from the efforts done by official agencies and the inclusion of the migrants' health in the national strategy to fight COVID-19.
